Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd (ST Aerospace), the aerospace arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering), today announced that it has clinched a contract to provide training helicopters for the Singapore Ministry of Defence. Under this contract, worth about $120m, ST Aerospace will provide the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) a fleet of five EC120 Colibri helicopters with full technical and logistic support for the fleet over a period of 20 years. Under the programme, ST Aerospace will own and maintain the helicopters, while pilot training would be performed by the RSAF. Eurocopter Southeast Asia (ESEA), which collaborated with ST Aerospace on this project, will supply the helicopters as well as the simulators.

This contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.

"We are pleased that our proposal has been selected by the RSAF. This requirement of the RSAF allows us to provide innovative, value for money solutions to meet the training needs of the RSAF. With the experience we have in supporting the RSAF in many other technical and operational areas, we have been able to structure an innovative and competitive proposal." ~ TAY Kok Khiang, President, ST Aerospace

This rotary wing contract was a tender called by the Singapore Ministry of Defence that required bidders to offer innovative and cost effective solutions under its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programme. Prior to this rotary wing contract, ST Aerospace began in 2003 to provide the RSAF similar support for its Transport Wing course. Under the Transport Wing programme, ST Aerospace also provides training, using the King Air C-90 Beechcraft configured to meet the RSAF's special training requirements, for RSAF's trainee pilots until they become full-fledged transport pilots.
